Indigenous Peoples

Did You Know?

There are 22 federally recognized tribes in Arizona. Tribal lands make up approximately 27% of the land in the state, and Indigenous people represent approximately 6% of Arizona's population. The largest tribal territory and population is the Navajo Nation, which spans 27,413 square miles over three states. Central Christian Church, along with most of the Phoenix area, is on the historic and ancestral lands of the Akimel O'otham and Pee Posh (known by their ascribed names as the Pima and Maricopa). How much do we know about our Indigenous brothers and sisters?

As Christ-followers, we are called to love all of God's children, so we should strive to see and honor those who are often made to feel invisible in our society. Join us-the Central congregation, our Indigenous church members, our local community, and our nation-as we acknowledge, reflect and celebrate, and say, "We see you and we honor you."
